Just one month ago - before windstorm, wildfires, and equinox - people had only to worry about COVID-19, employment, and their children's education. It was still summer.
On the Columbia River at Chinook Landing, water was low and the dredger was at work, keeping the channel open.
These parents urged their reluctant daughter to just stick a toe in the water --

And there was more than one way to practice social distancing ..

Rose hips ripened in the evening sun ---

One month later, the product of the dredgers floats downriver on a barge under a cool and cloudy sky.

So much happens in so little time.
