We met a new player on our photographic stage! Meet a juvenile Western Gull.

These guys get pretty big: wingspan from four to just under five feet! Weight about 2.5 pounds. Length about two feet. The average bill is over two inches long.
Fortunately, he likes fish, although to loosely quote the Cornell site, they have been known to steal milk from lactating seals lying in the sand. Can you say opportunist?
However, here he is, happily nabbing a piece of plastic ---

Which, as his grimace shows, he finds unpalatable.

Fortunately he's a smart bird and disdainfully dropped the trash.
I never cease to be amazed at all that is in the world around us!
