GRACEFUL WATERFOWL

It is peaceful now at the ponds. Very few birds skim the pond's surface. But those who do seem incredibly graceful.

Female mallards are not showy birds. But the curve of the neck and line of the bill with it's seldom observed hook are beautiful. Here are a few of the "girls' at Salish Ponds.

Mallard males have their own showy beauty. The first photo shows a bit of the blue on the back of the head mixed with the green. The third photo made me think that boy thinks he's Charles Atlas but he's really dinner on the wing. (That's a lot of breast meat!)

The geese are few but friendly.

I enjoy their beauty and grace, but most of all I appreciate the simple serenity they lend to the autumn afternoon.
