IT'S A S-EGRET! (I think)

The day after we spotted that colorful Great Blue Heron (and no, we did not intensify the colors) we photographed another pond visitor. At first, with just the naked eye, I thought I was seeing juvenile Great Blue Herons. But now I don't think so.

First, this bird is really white, not light gray. It doesn't have the mating feathers at the throat either. And, its legs are dark not gold or blue.

This bird is so translucent, you can see the bony framework in the wings, and the keratin of the ribs of the feathers.

Seen in black and white, it displays significant musculature as well.

I was lucky to catch him in flight.

There's always something new to learn at the pond.
